New Yorkers get a bad rep for being “rude” all the time. You say “rude,” I think you mean “fast.” Yes, we move very quickly and don’t take kindly to things/people/strollers that happen to be in our way.
But ask a New Yorker for help and they will be more than happy to oblige. Ask them for directions! Ask them to take a photo of you with your family! Ask them for recommendations for a good place to eat! New Yorkers love doling out help all the time. Like, take last week for instance.
My 1 train was delayed (see “don’t take kindly to things in our way”) and I needed to pee. BADLY. When I got to my stop, I ran into the nearest mall and up to the bathroom to do what needed to be done.
As I was exiting my stall, a woman rushed past me, threw down her pants, squatted down in the open stall across from me and began to urinate. It all happened so fast that I forgot I was still staring in amazement at her just openly peeing, for all the world to see!
She caught my gaze. We locked eyes. In a split second, she had realized she was not alone.
“Hi, can you help me?” she asked. “Would you please shut the door?”
And so I did.
“Thanks!” she called out from the now-privacy of her stall.
And so you see, New Yorkers are not “rude”. We are more than happy to lend a helping hand to any pissing stranger in need.
Now let’s try to wipe that image from our minds with this lovely photo of my beloved city.
