I had heard tales that Sprinkles cupcakes, originally out of LA, were the best cupcakes one could buy in New York. Better than New York cupcakes? I could scarcely believe it. I didn’t want to believe it! But how could I turn down cupcakes? Answer: I can’t.
And neither should you! Nestled in close proximity to Barney’s and Bloomie’s on the Upper East Side, Sprinkles is hard to miss because it is covered in, well, Sprinkles. Their trademark cupcake topper adorns the windows in full force, as you can plainly see.
In fact, every inch of Sprinkles is sprinkled with cute decor, from the wallpaper, the brightly colored ceiling, and the walk of fame on the floor listing popular cupcake flavors. Oh, did I mention the flavors?
They had so many choices, and they kept bringing tray after tray out to add to my consternation. It was nearly impossible to pick!
I finally chose the Salty Caramel cupcake, and I couldn’t be happier. It was a complex combination of achingly sweet caramel frosting, fleur de sel garnish, not to mention a spicy delicious cake! I hate to say it, but this was the most innovative cupcake I’ve ever eaten. I can’t wait to come back and try all the flavors!
