First things first, let me introduce you to my absolute favorite true crime podcast: Casefile.
I have listened to every. single. episode. I’m obsessed. I devoured the entire back catalog of episodes (around 70 at the time I started listening) at work, often when I was alone in the adjacent spare studio room for hours and hours on end, one episode into the next. It was basically the perfect time for me to listen to the multi-part episodes, especially the five-part epic deep-dive episodes about the East Area Rapist / Original Night Stalker, aka the Golden State Killer.
I remember it like it was yesterday. I was hooked from the first episode. When I heard the recording of the phone call, it triggered my deepest fears and raised my hackles and I knew! I knew I was in for a ride.
Now, it was about four episodes in and probably around 4:45pm one work day and I’d been listening to it for hours when my boss walked in. Now, my boss is the one who turned me onto Casefile in the first place, and she’d listened to many of the episodes before me. She was coming to check in on me and say goodbye before leaving and caught a little bit of the story.
“Ahh, the East Area Rapist?” she asked.
I lit up: “YES! I’m OBSESSED with this series! I can’t wait to find out who the killer is!”
Friends, the expression on her face. I remember as plain as day. it DROPPED.
See, this was MONTHS ago, like, last year! And what my boss instantly knew, and I did NOT, even after absorbing HOURS of story and exhaustive research, was that the East Area Rapist / Original Night Stalker / Golden State Killer had not, at that time, been caught.
UNTIL NOW!!!!!
In April, an hobbyist using DNA testing for ancestry purposes innocently stumbled into the knowledge that his DNA was an ancestral match for the EAST AREA RAPIST!!! Former police officer Joseph DeAngelo is awaiting trial for a number of crimes associated with the EARONS case, even though DNA has cleared him of one murder to date.
SO — Did I, through sheer desire to know how the case would end, put out such strong vibes of desire into the universe that my powers caused the stars to align, and the very delicate web of fate to manifest a conclusion to this decades-old cold case?
MAYBE!
Now, cold cases aren’t my particular cup of tea… Cold tea. YUCK! As you may rightly assume, I prefer the kind of true crime stories that have a satisfying ending.
However, now I feel it is incumbent upon me to listen to more cold cases, simply because the powerful energy that I project into the universe of wanting to know the ending to the story seems capable of manifesting a satisfying conclusion to an unsolved mystery.
And ultimately, it comes down to this: my power is amazing. I solved the EARONS/Golden State Killer case. You’re welcome.
