Currently… in December 2019

FEELING:  Like I’m taking a breath at last! After a good six months of steady, nonstop, deadline-pushing work, I’ve kind of got a little more breathing room in my schedule. The only problem is, it’s made me kind of miss work! Like, now that tours are slowing down, there’s finally time to ENJOY giving tours, but nobody wants to do a tour in December! Waahhhh!

.

WATCHING: Oooh oooh ooh! I’ve finally had time to watch things, and I’m LOVING IT. I’ve been watching a lot of Friends to relax as I’ve actually never seen the series (I KNOW!). I binge-watched the new season of The Crown and I was NOT disappointed. I’m only depressed that I have to wait for season 4! I’ve also been loving the “Murder, Mystery & Makeup Monday” series by Bailey Sarian on YouTube, and it’s both been intriguing to learn about true crime stories AND observe new makeup techniques! I will say as a disclaimer, I’ve actually heard of most of these stories as I have listened to, at this point, oh, say, THOUSANDS OF HOURS OF TRUE CRIME PODCASTS!!! But I love her storytelling style and I’m inspired to try new things with my face makeup-wise from watching her!

.

LISTENING TO:  I have to say, the best thing I “listened to” in the last month was this WNYC program which aired on Veteran’s Day: “Shell Shock 1919: How The Great War Changed Culture” and besides that, I’ve been listening to a lot of my true crime podcasts and A LOT of the Bowery Boys podcast! I’m actually going to a LIVE RECORDING of The Bowery Boys in a week and I’m gonna be so starstruck I don’t know how I will handle myself!!!

.

WORKING ON: Uhhhh I don’t really want to give away anything I’m working on, but I’ll be general and say that I’ve been trying to figure out a way to take my love of telling New York City history and making it work for me all year round, in a way that’s more permanent and easier on my body than giving tours — WHICH I STILL WANT TO DO, and intend to seek MORE tour-giving opportunities, ok! But I want to branch out and find ways to use my talents to branch out and do other… I’m going to stop blathering, ok? Watch this space, alright?

.

THINKING ABOUT: I’ve been having a lot of ideas about “what I want to do when I grow up.” I feel like I’ve really discovered myself a passion in giving walking tours, but as I already mentioned, this is an industry that kind of dries up in the colder months! So, I’m contemplating writing and research projects to keep myself doing my favorite thing, and try to be enterprising, blah blah blah, it’s all very secretive because I want to play things close to the vest until I have something to report 🙂

.

EATING:  Haha, a lot of carbs. I was obsessed with the pumpkin spice gluten-free bagels from Trader Joe’s, and I’ve still been eating the Gluten-Free Everything bagels. I’ve also been making my cheese and sriracha sandwiches. Gluten free breadstuffs are EXPENSIVE, ok? I need to get my grocery budget in check. ALSO not helping my grocery budget is the fact that a WEGMANS just opened a couple stops away from me along the B57 bus route! Yes, they have low low prices on things I eat all the time like granola bars and hummus, but they ALSO HAVE GLUTEN FREE SUSHI. And this is NOT low low priced. I’m addicted to their volcano tuna roll or whatever, the one with the jalapeño slices on top? UMPH. It’s not cheap, but it’s SO WORTH IT ok I’m gonna go to Wegmans tonight and get some

.

LOOKING FORWARD TO:  I’m so excited that I got a ticket to see The Bowery Boys record a live episode at The Greene Space! I’m going to WEEP with joy, I can just see it, oh no! I’m also OBVIOUSLY looking forward to singing in the park for John Lennon the day before, on December 8th! Gonna be A LOT OF EMOTION packed into two little days, there! I’m so excited to go up home to visit for Christmas – play snowy frisbee with my little doggie sister, play cards with the family, eat shrimp and cheese and marvel at the Christmas tree and play the Muppets Christmas Album!

.

MAKING ME HAPPY: Literally, the fact that everyone has started putting lights up. Christmas lights make me so happy! I think they should be mandatory to leave up all winter long! I’ve been lighting loads of candles in my room to add brightness to the dreary winter nights. My boyfriend got me this plush sherpa blanket that is SO luxurious and SO soft and SO warm, it’s incredible. And warm pajamas too! And cozy layers! My plants are THRIVING so I basically have an indoor greenhouse in here, full of candles and blankets and plants! My roommate gave me a purse she was no longer using, and it’s like, the nicest purse I’ve ever owned – it’s lavender purple, buttery soft, and has the most miraculous pockets — it fits everything in the world even though it’s actually not that huge, and it has dramatically improved my life (no lie). Having time to watch YouTube and scroll Twitter: I’m a dumbass Millennial, I love being #extremelyonline, and it’s comforting to me to participate in social media!
