What Are Your Sick Day Must-Haves?

Ugh, you guys, I feel awful.

It started with a crashing headache and nausea yesterday, now I can’t stop sneezing and I’m leaving a slime trail of boogers everywhere I go (which is to say, on my couch).

I haven’t felt this wretched in so long, I forgot how to deal!

So I’m taking it to the internet to ask you all, What are your sick day must-haves?

–  What vitamins and medicines do you swear by?
–  What tea makes you feel warm and happy inside and out?
–  What soup is best for what ails ya?
–  What Netflix do you stream?

Please help me out here, I’m moderately uncomfortable and I don’t know what to do about it (besides whine on the Internet!)!!

  1. I haven't been sick and nauseous for awhile, usually it's a really bad cold and I crave cream based soups, like Wisconsin cheese soup from Atlanta Bread Company. But they discontinued that soups about 2-3 years ago. I watch movies I have or stream comedies like Parks and Rec. this last time I was sick (and I'm still getting over it) I got thru all 7 seasons of Parks and Rec.

  2. True Lemon/Lime drink mixes. Egg noodles. Mashed potatoes. Lots of saltines. Or the chicken and noodles from Bob Evans. As far as netflix, I like series I can marathon all day long. So currently that's NCIS. When my sinuses/throat is hurting, I go for a white or chamomile tea with honey. If I'm wanting heartier soups, I add rice… so tomato and rice or cream of chicken and rice… (Sorry for throwing this all so randomly together. Still getting over something myself, so it's all just stream of consciousness.)

    Hope you feel better soon!

  3. If you're nauseous, anything with ginger is awesome. I drink ginger tea and take ginger capsules. I don't know if you can get local honey, but it really helps with my sinuses. I mean every single year. It's a miracle worker. A teaspoon a day and you're good to go. Whoever said an apple a day keeps the doctor away was stupid.

I have about 4 different types of headaches lol (including migraines) so I always have a different approach to how I treat them. But if I'm just having a "normal everyday type of headache," I tend to heat up a wrap (I guess a tea towel would do just fine too, or a heating pad) and pull it around my neck or put it on the top of my head. Another thing that works for me is to sit up straight, pull my shoulders as far up as they will go to my head, hold it for a good while, and then release back down. I do this several times because I feel like it releases a lot of tension and stress. It just feels good.

I definitely recommend zinc and Vitamin D for the cold season, but I take them year round because my immune system is compromised. Soup? Cheesy potato. Always.

I switch between shows on Netflix because I'm indecisive haha but if you're looking for just some quick shows to stream, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, United States of Tara, and Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23 are some I enjoyed watching.
I also sometimes, if I'm really sick, just pretend it's downtime. If I can, I'm just like, "Yeah, let me slip in some time to knit on my scarf some." "Oh yeah, I do need an adult coloring book." You know what I mean? Just try to make it less sucky. Feel better!

  4. The sofa and a duvet is a must have or if I'm really poorly the bed and a TV. Generally I watch my favourite films I have seen a few times, so if I fall asleep half way through it doesn't matter so much. Or my 24 and Battlestar Galactica box sets. Tomato soup and Porridge (not together) as they can be reheated if I can't eat it all there and then. Drink of choice from a child – Hot water a teaspoon full of Honey and teaspoon of Lemon juice same for Glycerine. I call it my nitro glycerine drink as it blows my colds away. If I am bad I tend to have a paracetamol with it.
Getting well is all about rest for the mind and body. Make sure you laugh and smile cause that's the best medicine for getting well too.
    Hope you feel better soon.
