What really sucks about death is that it shows us how much we take for granted.

My own dear father recently lamented that he’d always imagined growing old surrounded by the ones he loved, when a scare showed him that such a future might not be possible.  Death is that reality check.  We don’t know how much time we have, yes, but what’s also uncertain is how much time we might have with the ones we love.

Do not take them for granted.  Always return voicemails.  Visit even when you’d rather not.

And as I’ve always believed to be true:

It doesn’t matter how long you live, as long as you leave a legacy of love.
