Blogtember #19: Gripe

I’ve written about my Facebook pet peeves here and here.  But I’ve noticed a new trend has emerged that has gotten so out of hand that I’ve even gone so far as to delete the Facebook app from my phone.

I don’t want to make light of other people’s problems, but taking everyday gripes to Facebook needs to stop.  There seems to be a trend of using Facebook as an elephant graveyard for every little thing that bothers you throughout the day.  “Have a negative thought?  Post it as your Facebook status!”  I believe that negativity breeds negativity.  One person writes an update complaining about the weather.  Someone comments in agreement.  Another person tries to one-up with a complaint about their weather.  Next status:  “I’m soooo tired.”  Comment:  “You think YOU’RE tired!”  And so on and so forth.

My favourite complaint?
Complaining about Facebook…on Facebook.

Instead of using Facebook as a dumping ground for unhappiness, can we try to share more uplifting, positive missives on the ‘book?  And that’s my rant.

  1. You're so right about that. I would enjoy Facebook so much more if people would use it as a place to share positivity instead of negativity. We all have our troubles, but something about posting them as your Facebook status makes it seem as if you think you are the only one in the world going through a difficult time. That being said, I have also seen Facebook used as a productive way to make people aware of an issue that someone is going through, and in turn, all of their "friends" come together to lend a hand and support. That's a great way to turn a Facebook negative into a positive!
