Awesome Weekend-Brag

Welcome back to the other side of the weekend!  Working a non-traditional job, I have a weird concept of what a “weekend” is.

Soucre:  TV Guide

Nevertheless, My weekend starts on Wednesday night (like Friday night for you folks) and Saturday is my “Sunday.”  Well, this weekend I kicked off by giving an awesome private ghost tour for five huge Broadway fans!  We had a blast talking ghosts and musical theatre, catching fireflies and some really cool photos along the way.  They were a really special group of people and I am honored to have been their guide!

THURSDAY

Thursday dawned cool and hazy, so I grabbed my umbrella and set out the door for a long walk!  It’s been too hot to enjoy walking much lately, so even the potential for rain didn’t cool my heels!  Along the way I stopped at a craft store and inadvertently bought some beads and made a bracelet that I’ve been wearing nonstop since – I fell asleep wearing it twice so far!

That night, I met my boyfriend in Park Slope to try out Hunan Delight, and it was truly delightful.  The weather stayed cool but the sun had come out, and I dragged that poor boy into Beacon’s Closet where I found…drumroll please…a pink floral Betsey Johnson ruffled party dress in my size for $18!  Birthday dress!!!  I ran right into the dressing room, threw it over my head, whipped open the curtain and declared, “I’LL TAKE IT!”  Because how can you pass that up?  We sauntered over to Ample Hills Creamery where I introduced my guy to the best ice cream in all of NYC and it was funny watching him rap along to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back” in the line.  I felt like the luckiest girl in all of Brooklyn.

FRIDAY

Friday I took myself out on a “date.”  Waking up early, I arrived downtown before my hair appointment at Fringe (ooh la la) and stopped in to Economy Candy which absolutely took my breath away.  Cuz you all know, I love candy.  The selection was a little narrower than what I’m used to, but the price was right and they had mini Chick-O-Stick (coconut and peanut butter crunchy candy OH MY GOD) and peppermint taffy!  The downside is, you have to buy a minimum of 1/2 lb of bulk candy, so I grabbed up some surprises for friends.  By the way, Economy Candy is like, practically across the street from Babeland, calling to mind this other 90’s hit song:

After my haircut, I braved the wind to walk over to my favourite SoHo store which is usually closed by the time I get out of work.  Pearl River Mart!  And since I was by myself, I took my sweet time perusing the aisles and picking out a grab bag of mini incense 10/$1, a mini incense burner for $0.75, and this coffee mug I totally fell in love with:

Even laundry was fun!  The claw machine at the laundromat had a My Little Pony plush toy and though I didn’t try to win her (she’s buried up to her neck, COME ON), just the sight of it made me laugh.

I went to bed insanely early, listening to my Disco station on Pandora Radio and had a weird dream about crashing a wedding at my mom’s church where a disgruntled guest brandished a gun at the wedding party while singing “I’m So Excited.”  This is why “Disco Sux.”  Just kidding.  It’s awesome.

SATURDAY
Saturday I woke up way too early and finished reading The Scarlet Pimpernel!  I think it’s my favourite thing I’ve read in a long time!  If you like easy-to-read quick classics, totally pick it up.  I also started working on setting up some cool blog stuff for while I’m away on vacation and busy with houseguests over the next couple of weeks!  I also got to take a nap on my couch before my tour at night, which is becoming a bit of a Saturday/”Sunday” tradition.

SUNDAY
I know you’re thinking, “WHAT?  Sunday is MONDAY, the weekend is OVER!  But oh no, because after work I jetted off to Brooklyn despite all the trains being stupid with a big, fragrant cup of decaf coffee and a purse full of candy to watch MXC and make ice cream sundaes in my boyfriend’s air-conditioned apartment!

Next weekend I’ll be on vacation, and I can’t wait!  But if my week is half as awesome as my weekend, time will go by quickly and I won’t mind the wait!
